It’s a serious issue and it’s under-reported due to the fact that people don’t take it seriously and the prevalence of hyper-masculinity. Also, keep in mind that this is also a feminist issue. The experience of male rape victims does not take away from the experience of female victims. The fact that people don’t believe male victims is a byproduct of the patriarchy. Male victims are ridiculed because it’s as if they’re they’re in the role of a woman, because according to gender roles which were put in place by men, men are supposed to be the ones who are sexually dominant. This system of hyper-masculinity is the reason why many male victims don’t come forward to report their cases, and why most people don’t believe them or take them seriously. It’s pretty much all a byproduct of misogyny and the patriarchy.
